Job Description

About The Resolution 2024 Call Out

Resolution is The Place’s annual festival for new choreography and performance works. The 2024 festival will take place between 17 Jan and 9 Feb 2024.

We are looking for short, live works that are between 15 and 25 minutes in length, configured for end-on presentation. All pieces in Resolution will be presented in triple bill evenings.

We welcome applications for a range of performance styles, including dance, dance theatre, physical theatre, hip hop, South Asian dance, circus, live art, performance art, and more. The most important thing is the quality of the idea. We are most excited by work that centers on movement, where the body is one of the key modes of artistic exploration and expression.

This is The Place’s biggest open call and the panel read hundreds of applications. We want to know who you are and what your idea is. We are looking for artists interested in taking part in the journey of Resolution, from learning and refining your skills through the tailored workshops, promoting and performing your work at the festival, to learning from industry professionals through supportive and practical workshops.

There are no upfront costs to the festival, and applications are free.

About Resolution Festival

Resolution exists to support and celebrate new ideas. It’s a well established festival and has been running for over 30 years. We invite artists to propose exciting ideas for new work that they are passionate about, using the festival as a platform to create that work.

As well as presenting work to an audience of peers, professionals and critics, Resolution artists take part in a series of supportive and practical artist development workshops.

The Place is London’s creative powerhouse for dance development. We power imagination through dance, champion new ideas, embrace risks and create optimal conditions for dance artists and enthusiasts to realise their full potential.

In 2024 all performances will be presented in the traditional end-on configuration in our 288 seat studio theatre.

Financially, the festival works as follows:

  • The theatre takes a first call of £1605 of the box office income for each night of Resolution.
  • Any box office income which exceeds this amount is divided equally between the three companies who share the night.
  • If you don’t sell enough tickets to cover this £1605, you must pay the theatre the remaining balance which is also divided equally between the three companies who share the night.
  • There are no upfront costs to the festival.

Eligibility

Any UK based artists working in live performance can take part.

Who can’t apply? Anyone outside the UK, anyone who will still be in education at the time of the festival, any youth companies or anyone under 18yrs.

Due to the nature of the festival setup, we are unable to support work which is durational, site-specific or limited capacity.

Please note that you that if successful you agree to not show the work three months either side of the Resolution performance date.
