Screendance Summer School
About Screendance Summer School
The Screendance Summer School at London Contemporary Dance School is an opportunity for anyone aged 16+ to delve into the world of dance film, to learn new skills and gain a deeper understanding of where to see, make and share screendance.
Each day will start with a daily morning dance, followed by a variety of sessions introducing you to new technical skills through practical exercises designed to build confidence working with the camera, develop ways to consider choreography through a filmic lens, and find new ways to express your artistic ideas in this interdisciplinary art form. By the end of the week, you will have completed short collaborative dance films. On the final day, the focus will shift to exploring current and historical screendance works, programming, and distribution to audiences.
The Screendance Summer School will be taught be faculty and guest teachers from London Contemporary Dance School. Some equipment including cameras and laptops for editing will be provided, with participants invited to bring their own mobile devices and cameras to work with if they have them.
