New Horizon Youth Centre Projects
We began our partnership with New Horizon Youth Centre in 2022, having consulted with the staff and young people to confirm what activities they were most interested in. Following this consultation, we agreed to start by supporting art sessions that were delivered by artists and staff at the October Gallery, also based in Camden.
Since then, we have continued to fund monthly art sessions, as part of the centre’s drop-in service for young people. These popular sessions have included many different art techniques and activities including fabric printing, hanging mobiles, designing protest placards, poster making, clay sculpting, making carnival themed decorations, flag making, which are often inspired by the work of artists that in October Gallery’s current exhibition.
From Autumn 2025, October Gallery will take over the delivery of the art sessions, whilst we focus on movement activity. Alongside the art sessions we have programmed yoga classes, as well as, a variety of dance taster workshops including Contemporary African with Akosua Boakye, Street Dance with Boy Blue, Bhangra with Absolute Bollywood and Afrobeats with Sarah Lisney. As the Afrobeats workshop was a popular choice amongst young people at the centre, we are continuing to offer a monthly Afrobeats class, with dance artist Sarah.
