Sophia Morton
Sophia Morton is a multidisciplinary artist who desires to delve into stories to translate onto bodies in a way that the grit and raw power of each story becomes a rich lived physical experience for the performer. That the guttural essence of the movement may express what mere words of one's stories cannot utter. How to see the heart? Sophia is a graduate of the MA Dance: Performance programme at LCDS, where she was a member of the inaugural Cohort 01. During the programme she worked with project leaders such as Theo Clinkard, Jenna Jalonen, Hannes Langolf, Paleta, Benjamin Jonsson, AE Company (Aoi Nakamura & Esteban Lecoq), Edivaldo Ernesto, Horacio Macuacua, Jozef Frucek and Alexandra Reynolds under the course leadership of Tom English, Tina Afiyan Breiova and Dr Andrew Sanger and working closely with individual mentor Becky Namgauds. |
Over the course my experience in Edivaldo and Horacio’s workshops shaped me profoundly in mental and physical stamina; the mental ability to choose to continue despite the body's groaning to shut down whilst pushing through a jungle of self-critical thoughts was a powerful fight to be a part of and has transcended into so many life practices; the ability to persist.
