Artistic Director of Dickson Mbi Company

Dickson Mbi is a world-renowned dancer, choreographer and composer, and the winner of the Olivier Award for Outstanding Achievement in Dance 2023. Born in Cameroon, Dickson grew up in East London, trained at Lewisham College and London Contemporary Dance School where he obtained an MA in Choreography.

An artist with wide range of experiences from inspiring the next generation of Artist, creating ground-breaking dance performances and composing music for major ballet companies to choreographing for Film and TV.

He founded the Dickson Mbi Company alongside producer Farooq Chaudhry OBE in 2017; choreographic commissions for the company include Sadler's Wels, Dance East, The Barbican, Bush Theatre, The Lowry, Royal Ballet, Northern Ballet, BBC, Scottish Ballet & Desert-X Alula 202.

Dickson has worked with award-winning artists such as Simon McBurney and Russell Maliphant for whom he toured extensively internationally. As a choreographer he has developed major works for leading companies, most recently Twice Born, for Scottish Ballet that premiered in September 2023 to critical acclaim and for which he also composed the score. Dickson’s music is published exclusively by Chester Music, part of the Wise Music Group

Dickson received nominations for Best Achievement in Dance, UK Theatre Awards 2017, Outstanding Male Performer & Emerging Artist at National Dance Awards 2017 & 2018, Times Breakthrough Artist at South Bank Sky Arts Awards 2018 and OFFIES 2022 for Red Pitch.
