In 2023, The Place was thrilled to run two brand new Artist Led Labs with cabaret artist Cleopantha and a Japanese Noh Theatre Lab with Noboru Sano, supported by Noh Reimagined, launching a new artist-led learning and knowledge sharing programme that introduced movement styles that we do not regularly house within the building.

Now, we are excited to announce that we are accepting applications from artists who are interested in leading their own labs at The Place in Autumn 2024. Our labs intend to support artists by providing a platform for them to share their research and skills, while also exploring their own practice and movement styles.

For 2024, we are seeking artists who are currently investigating a specific choreographic concept or question and who are interested in leading a 3 - 4 day intensive for a group of fellow artists in the studio.

The selected artist will be supported by the Artist Development team at The Place to produce and run the labs, also contributing £3,000 towards the facilitation of the labs. The labs are free for participants to attend, with bursary places available for travel, accommodation or access costs.

Cleopantha says about the experience:

“I had the most amazing time at working on my Cabaret Lab, and it was an honor to be at The Place to support the students at the start of their careers. It was so amazing to be in a space with mainly queer artists, and The Place worked hard to make sure it was a safe space for them.”
