DANCE TEACHER (Freelance) – Language of Dance
Location: London & surrounding areas (schools currently available in SE London)
Pay: £35 per session (includes planning & evaluation)
Hours: 1–3 hours per week
Start: September onwards (to be agreed with schools)
About the Language of Dance Trust
The Language of Dance Trust is a registered charity that promotes dance for all using the unique Language of Dance movement approach. Using a framework of symbols and movement concepts from the developments of Ann Hutchinson Guest, we work across schools, community groups, and professional development settings to inspire and support creativity in movement and learning.
About the Role
- We are looking for an enthusiastic and reliable freelance Dance Teacher to deliver accessible and creative dance sessions as part of our Dance Moves outreach programme.
- The ideal candidate will have prior experience delivering dance in educational settings and ideally have some knowledge of the Language of Dance approach.
- Desirable for the role would be experience in notation, choreological studies or a similar field of work. If unfamiliar with the Language of Dance approach, we will provide training, resources, and class plans depending on experience.
Responsibilities
- Deliver high-quality dance sessions in line with the Language of Dance Trust.
- Must integrate LOD concepts and framework into teaching sessions.
- Prepare and submit session plans; record attendance and session feedback.
- Complete and submit Risk Assessments for any new venues or spaces.
- Liaise with school staff to deliver end-of-year sharing tailored to the school needs.
Person Specification
- A motivated individual with strong organisational skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Comfortable working independently as well as collaboratively within a team.
- Confidence in engaging with new people and building professional relationships.
- Relevant training through a recognised dance organisation or dance university / qualification.
- Able to take responsibility for own work and manage time effectively.
