About Choreodrome: next steps

A double-bill of new work developed through Choreodrome, The Place’s annual residency and commission programme which provides dance makers with a nurturing space, time, and resources to develop new ideas.

LES NUAGES BY BEA BIDAULT

A poignant dance performance that explores loneliness and the deep human yearning for connection.

Performed by Bea Bidault and Max Revell, the work exposes vulnerability in its rawest form, asking how we can truly be real with one another. Les Nuages becomes a metaphor for dreams and hopes—a visually striking, emotionally charged journey to the heart.

Two performers are captured in a dramatic, hazy scene lit by a warm, golden glow from above. The person on the right, who is bald and wearing a blue button-down shirt, stands in profile and appears to be speaking or reaching toward the woman. On the left, the other person's form is partially obscured by shadows and thick smoke or mist, creating a sense of mystery and tension between the two figures.

NADĪ

Translating to ‘river’ in Marathi, ‘Nadī’ questions and deconstructs ghost stories from Aishwarya’s childhood spent in the Konkan Ghats.

Drawing inspiration from the natural world, this evocative duet reimagines the female spirits that inhabit these tales not as objects of fear or caution, but as complex presences whose stories have been obscured, distorted, or forgotten.

Rivers become a symbol of their resilience, their depth, their grace and their fury. Shapeshifting and carving space in a rigid society with unyielding determination, much like rivers carving through mountains.

Nadī is an invitation to imagine the stories that may have been lost beneath the ones we’ve heard.

A blurred, long-exposure shot captures two dancers in motion on a dark stage. One dancer lies on the floor while the other, wearing red, appears as a streak of movement above them. The warm, low-key lighting emphasizes the fluid and abstract nature of the choreography.
