About RES27: Self Producing with Akshay Sharma
This workshop offers an honest, practical insight into self-producing from the perspective of choreographer and producer Akshay Sharma, sharing the approaches, habits, and lessons that have helped him develop work independently throughout his career.
Rather than presenting a definitive guide to producing, the session will focus on the realities of making dance work with limited resources, navigating challenges, building relationships, and finding creative solutions when budgets are small. Participants will be encouraged to think strategically about their own projects and leave with practical ideas they can apply immediately.
The workshop is designed for early career dance artists participating in Resolution who are beginning to produce their own work and want to better understand what is possible at this stage of their careers.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Based in England and trained at the Northern School of Contemporary Dance in Leeds, Akshay Sharma creates emotionally resonant, intellectually rigorous work at the intersection of contemporary dance and the vocal form of Dhrupad. His practice is rooted in a regimen of disciplined rehearsal, critical reflection, and emotional inquiry, an approach that unites movement, voice, and narrative into cohesive, living structures.
Born and raised in India, he brings a cross-cultural perspective to his work bridging geographical, disciplinary, and cultural boundaries. He conceives choreography as a framework that organises bodies, space, sound, and narrative into cohesive, living structures.
