About Surge | Gwefr
EARLY BIRD OFFER: limited tickets available – book now to save!*
National Dance Company Wales presents a triple-bill of bold new works, inviting you to journey through time and imagination. From ancient mythology to futuristic sci-fi, each piece blends stunning choreography with striking design to transport you to new worlds.
A quiet moment becomes epic in Infinity Duet, a unique collaboration between choreographer Faye Tan and artist Cecile Johnson Soliz, as a swinging sculpture takes centre stage and dancers make warm, soulful movements to explore weight and time.
Precision meets surrealism in Marcos Morau’s Waltz, where glittering, otherworldly beings move across a stark white landscape. A dystopian sci-fi adventure into chaos and control, this acclaimed work has captivated audiences across Europe and been hailed as “utterly compelling” by The Times.
Finally, be transported on a quest to discover Mabon by Osian Meilir. Inspired by the legendary Mabinogion, this vivid re-imagining takes you deep into ancient Wales to encounter the world’s oldest animals. Blending fantastical costumes, wild choreography, and haunting new music by Welsh triple harpist Cerys Hafana.
There will be a post-show talk following this performance, hosted by National Dance Company Wales' Rehearsal Director, Victoria Roberts.

About the artists
Marcos Morau
Between Barcelona and New York, Marcos Morau studied photography, movement and theatre. He builds worlds and imaginary landscapes where movement and image meet and shallow one another.
For over ten years, Marcos has ran La Veronal, as director, choreographer, and set, light and costumes designer. He’s travelled the world presenting his pieces at festivals, theatres and international contexts.
Apart from his work with La Veronal, Marcos Morau is an invited artist for various companies and theatres to develop new creations, always half way between scenic arts and dance, with special attention to dramaturgy.
As the youngest winner of the National Dance Award in Spain, his language is part of a heritage, from abstract movement and physical theatre, blended together in a surrealist and dark amalgam. A powerful body language based in the annihilation of any organic logic, dissecting movement and making it into a unique identity.
Faye Tan
Faye is a dancer and choreographer from Singapore and is currently a full-time dancer with National Dance Company Wales. Her choreographic practice is nourished by her extensive experiences of working with contemporary dance choreographers from all over the world and her explorations of different dance styles, cultures, methods and techniques. Her works often embrace the sometimes overwhelming complexities of human emotion, and are often odes to human experiences of the sublime.
Frequently collaborating with musicians and visual artists, she has created works for various settings and contexts with NDCWales, VERVE (UK), Frontier Danceland (Singapore), the Centre for Advanced Training (UK) and School of The Arts Singapore.
Cecile Johnson Soliz
Cecile Johnson Soliz is a second generation American of Bolivian heritage who grew up in California, Mexico, Bolivia, Brazil, Ghana and Italy before arriving to the U.K. to study fine art at Cardiff College of Art and Goldsmiths. Following 20 years in London, the Henry Moore Fellowship in Sculpture brought her to Cardiff in 1995 where she lives and works. Cecile has exhibited across 35 years in the U.K. and abroad in both solo and group exhibitions, winning the Gold Medal in Fine Art at the National Eisteddfod, Wales in 2017.
