about your teacher
Akane Abe was born in Japan and now lives in London. She has two degrees, an MA in Contemporary Dance & Choreography, and three years full time training in Contemporary Dance, both from London Contemporary Dance School, a Sports Science Degree from Chukyo University in Japan, and a certificate in Mime Studies with Adam Darius in Helsinki.
Akane has been invited to teach at summer schools in Japan since 2001. Her choreography has been requested since that time, and in 2017 with husband musician/composer 'Trimmer', formed Dance Theatre Red. Although interrupted by Covid, they are currently engaged in a four-cycle work based on the Buddhist elements, of which 'Wind', 'Earth', have been completed and performed with 'Water' and 'Fire' in production. Between 2001 and 2009 Akane taught and choreographed the Evening School Performance Project at The Place with performances at the end of each term.
