The Peter Farley Collaborations is named in memory of the theatre designer's remarkable contribution to The Place and LCDS.
News Story
Peter Farley was a theatre designer, international exhibition curator, writer and teacher, who contributed to the arts and culture scene internationally since he first moved to London in 1973 to study theatre design at Wimbledon School of Art (now part of the University of the Arts London). He went on to become, amongst many other roles, the senior lecturer on the BA Theatre Design course at Wimbledon School of Art until his retirement in 2019.
Passionate about design, performance and dance, Peter has had a significant impact on The Place and students of London Contemporary Dance School, as a co-founder of the annual Collaborations evenings between Students of LCDS, Wimbledon College of Arts, UAL, the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and RADA. Originally named Design for Dance, now known as Design Collaborations, the project is still very much a central element of our BA Programme. as it is such an instrumental learning opportunity for students. It has since grown into one of our most celebrated events, encouraging students from different arts to collaborate and explore the synergies between their art forms, co-creating unique and visually arresting performances.
Peter's family and friends decided upon his death in 2022, that Peter would wish to see Collaborations continue well into the future, and so offered a generous gift to The Place to ensure the future of these wonderful evenings. We are honoured to name The Peter Farley Collaborations in his memory as a wonderful tribute to his remarkable contribution to The Place and LCDS.
