Born and raised in Singapore, Pearl’s personal practice is derived from the influences of her culture and upbringing in a multiracial society. Having been trained in both traditional eastern and western contemporary dance forms, Pearl is intrigued by the possibilities of fusion between the
forms. Graduating from Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts in dance and performance making, she has evolved and honed her personal practice of challenging what performance could look like inhibiting a multicultural and multi-disciplinary lens. She enjoys processes that push the boundaries for audience experiences with storytelling, narratives in performances and both physical and immersive theatre. Her current interests lie in connectivity between individuals and the vulnerability of speaking from lived experiences in dance.

Pearl is a graduate of the MA Dance: Performance programme at LCDS, where she was a member of the inaugural Cohort 01. During the programme she worked with project leaders such as Theo Clinkard, Jenna Jalonen, Hannes Langolf, Paleta, Benjamin Jonsson, AE Company (Aoi Nakamura & Esteban Lecoq), Edivaldo Ernesto, Horacio Macuacua, Jozef Frucek and Alexandra Reynolds under the course leadership of Tom English, Tina Afiyan Breiova and Dr Andrew Sanger and working closely with individual mentor Yen-Ching Lin.

The course has encouraged me to critically reflect on my personal practice as an artist and has allowed me to understand what trajectory I would like to take my work towards. A key moment for me was working with Hannes Langolf who inspired my curiosity in physical theatre. It allowed me to dive deeper into creating works that are fulfilling and resonate with me and my truth.
