Marianna Sfyridi
Marianna is a performer and movement practitioner with a background in healthcare and EdTech. Apart from this, she is an active Capoeira instructor, teaching the art of Capoeira to refugee kids in NGOs in Greece. Having spent several years studying different aspects of dance and somatic practices, she now realizes that dance is a lifestyle that includes active learning which is energized through the use of space, time and emotional intelligence. In her travels and practice around the world she likes to dwell in the relationship of social issues and the dancer, in the connection with live musicians through improvisation, trying to expand the reasons that form our need for movement. Apart from dance, her passions are also percussion drumming, painting, and creative writing. Marianna is a graduate of the MA Dance: Performance programme at LCDS, where she was a member of the inaugural Cohort 01. During the programme she worked with project leaders such as Theo Clinkard, Jenna Jalonen, Hannes Langolf, Paleta, Benjamin Jonsson, AE Company (Aoi Nakamura & Esteban Lecoq), Edivaldo Ernesto, Horacio Macuacua, Jozef Frucek and Alexandra Reynolds under the course leadership of Tom English, Tina Afiyan Breiova and Dr Andrew Sanger and working closely with individual mentor Yen-Ching Lin. |
A moment of learning that deeply resonated with me was exploring the connection between dance and care through Theo Clinkard's 'Move to Feel, Feel to Move' technique. His approach to relating the body and movement to the current socio-political climate opened my eyes to the powerful role dance can play in reflecting and responding to the world around us.
