Dr Jamieson Dryburgh (PhD, BA Hons, PGCHE, PFHEA) is a leading dance pedagogue, academic and former professional dancer with over thirty years’ experience in specialist performing arts education. Trained in Contemporary Dance at the Laban Centre and on the postgraduate performance course 4D at London Contemporary Dance School, he performed internationally with companies including Candoco, Yolande Snaithe Theatre Dance, First Person Dance Company, Physical Recall, H2Dance, Charleroi/Danses (Belgium), Tandem Cie (Belgium) and Yelp! (Greece).
Jamieson has taught dance across major UK conservatoires for more than twenty‑five years, including LCDS, Trinity Laban, Bird Conservatoire and Millennium Performing Arts. His work also spans community and socially engaged practice, co‑leading dance for social inclusion for queer refugees and asylum seekers with Micro Rainbow and serving as Artistic Director of youth dance company Shift.
A strategic academic leader, Jamieson has held senior roles including Deputy Principal at Bird Conservatoire of Performing Arts and Director of Higher Education at Central School of Ballet, where he led curriculum innovation, quality assurance, staff development and student experience. He is an external examiner for Leeds School of Arts, a board member of DanceHE, and serves on the Qualifications Committee for People Dancing.
Jamieson completed his PhD in Dance Pedagogy at Middlesex University in 2021. His research explores queer, feminist and critical approaches to dance technique training, and is published in peer‑reviewed journals, edited collections and sector podcasts. His scholarly and leadership work continues to shape contemporary conversations about pedagogy, inclusivity and the future of conservatoire training.
