The Place was founded in 1969 to ‘foster, promote and increase the interests of the public in the knowledge, understanding and practice of the art of contemporary dance and... to promote or establish schools or colleges of contemporary dance.’
It was founded as Contemporary Dance Trust Limited, a company limited by guarantee (Company No. 883094) and a registered charity (Charity No. 250216). Contemporary Dance Trust Limited trades as ‘The Place’ in relation to its overall functions, and ‘London Contemporary Dance School’ (LCDS or ‘the School’) in relation to its higher education (HE) functions. The Governors of Contemporary Dance Trust Limited are its charity trustees, company directors and the governing body of LCDS.
The Board has established committees including, Audit, Finance and General Purposes, Nominations, and Remuneration. The Equity, Diversity and Access Committee is a senior cross-organisation committee reporting to the Board.
