Job Description
This workshop is a chance to explore and engage with methods and tasks emerging from Annie’s Choreodromeresidency. The day will look at researching a new work responding to the fetishisation of women with limb differences and disabled people, bringing ideas of consent, joy, and power to the surface.
Annie’s current inquiry is building movement practices and scores connected to consent, self authorship, and claiming our bodies and what we want. Dancing as a conduit towards claiming power, joy, and a liberated presence, and how this relates to performance and being witnessed.
The session will include time for movement, conversation, and reflection. This work relates to our experiences of intimacy and sexuality and the place they take in our lives, specifically for disabled people.
This workshop invites adults identifying as Deaf, disabled or neurodivergent, with some dance experience, who want to explore these topics and movement practices within a respectful and carefully held environment.
Though the workshop may touch on sensitive themes, it is situated in an artistic space rather than a therapeutic space. The session will be held with sensitivity and we will practice respecting our own boundaries and the boundaries of others as we explore. It may sound serious, but lightness, play, and joy are also essential in Annie’s work! It’s all about exploring what we want through movement, and being together to share our experiences.
The workshop takes place at The Place on Sat 26 September, 1pm-4pm

About Annie Hanauer
Annie Hanauer (she/her) is a contemporary dance artist who choreographs, performs, and facilitates dancing in many different settings. She has worked across countries and contexts for 18 years, with an established presence on international stages as both a dancer and choreographer. As a disabled artist often working with other disabled/crip collaborators, Annie is interested in how bodies in motion can joyfully disrupt ideas of normativity.
One, Two is a new work in development responding to the fetishisation of women with limb differences & disabled people more widely. In the tangle of digital life, artistic power, choice, and crip pride, this project asks: How do we claim the power of our female, disabled bodies, and define them on our own terms?
