Tyranny of the King Edwards

In some place, at some point in time (but for now, in a theatre), Emma is meticulously preparing to execute her closest friend, Beatrice.

Why?

Well, it’s all tied up in a surreal exploration of dehumanisation and propaganda. In a combination of dance, theatre, and simple clowning, expect plenty of absurd moments as Emma faces the impossible task of reconciling her mission while her actions unravel a deeper reflection on modern society. Will she follow through? Or will the absurdity of it all hold up a mirror to us?

Oh, and by the way... Beatrice, the friend? She’s a spud.

Tyranny of the King Edwards delves into the world of dark humour, making you think while keeping it playful, showing us that when it comes to propaganda and potatoes, things can get a little mashed.

About Chevon Edwards

Chevon is a performer and dance-maker whose evolving body of work delves into the analysis of human behaviour and social constructs. In Tyranny of the King Edwards, she explores themes of dehumanisation and propaganda, sparked by ongoing events in the Middle East, discussions around immigration, and the concerning rise of far-right politics in Europe. As someone from a marginalised community, this piece shares her perspective as she critically examines and questions the mechanisms by which society functions. Seeking to understand the acts perpetrated against one another this piece asks, why are we like this? inviting a joint exploration for both the audience and herself.

Roulette

Club music echoes through the floor of a dimly lit room, where merely a table will host six players throughout the night. A game inspired by Russian Roulette takes place in the rafters of a dingy nightclub that may cost someone their life… for a cash prize. Become immersed in this world controlled by the dealer, as contestants are put head to head in a high tension game of chance. Exploring themes of survival and thrill of danger, the work presents a high stakes situation, where the overarching addiction to danger is what leads these people to the Roulette.
