About Ballet Beginners with Denzil Bailey

Learn new ballet skills in a supportive and fun environment.

This class will help you gain a deeper understanding of ballet technique, movement and vocabulary – the perfect next step for anyone who has completed the introduction course or has 6 months to one year of movement experience.

From barre to pirouettes, you will be carefully guided through each step by our experienced dance artist, Denzil Bailey to an accompaniment of beautiful live music by virtuosic composer and pianist Anna Gillespie. Building confidence with each class, you will leave with an accomplished understanding of the musicality, artistry and technique of ballet, ready to progress into our intermediate classes.

About the artist

Denzil started to dance aged 17 in a weekly jazz class in a church hall in Cricklewood. Encouraged by his teacher to take ballet, he joined the London School of Classical Dance. After three years he was chosen to join the internationally prestigious English National Ballet where he danced for 10 years, touring the world.

After freelancing and raising his son Jacob, Denzil was approached by Cassa Pancho, a dancer writing her dissertation on the lack of black classical dancers, and together they founded the renowned Ballet Black. This led to numerous requests to teach, and Denzil unintentionally became a ballet teacher, which he now calls his ‘dream job’.

Denzil has regular open classes across London, and teaches for dance companies such as Rambert, Company Wayne McGregor, Neo Ballet, Tavaziva, Skanes Danstheater, and Ballet Black.
