About Contemporary Intermediate with Akane Abe

Perfect for anyone with at least 3 years of dance experience and who is looking to gain a new insight into contemporary dance.

This contemporary dance class features the expressive movements of lyrical dance and release technique drawing on inspiration from dance pioneer José Limón. The class follows set exercises to help develop technique and musicality. The live music by Auris Delan will help inspire your movement throughout the class.

about your teacher

Akane was born in Japan and now lives in London. She has two degrees, an MA in Contemporary Dance & Choreography, and three years full time training in Contemporary Dance, both from LCDS. A Sports Science Degree from Chukyo University in Japan, and a certificate in Mime studies with Adam Darius in Helsinki.

Akane has been invited to teach at summer schools in Japan since 2001. Her choreography has been requested since that time, and in 2017 with husband musician/composer 'Trimmer' formed 'Dance Theatre Red'. Although interrupted by Covid, they are currently engaged in a four-cycle work based on the Buddhist elements, of which 'Wind', 'Earth', have been completed and performed with 'Water' and 'Fire' in production. Between 2001 and 2009 Akane taught and choreographed the Evening School Performance Project at The Place with performances at the end of each term.
