About Contemporary Introduction with Sarah Miller

Classes start on Wed 18th Sep 2024 and run until Wed 4th December 2024 (excluding Wed 30th Oct due to half term)

Jump, spin and glide across the floor with contemporary dance

This course is aimed at complete beginners and offers an introduction to contemporary dance in an encouraging and laid-back group setting, with opportunities for creative development of your own style. Sarah Miller will guide you through the basics of core contemporary dance vocabularies and techniques which includes Cunningham and release.

Cunningham technique emphasises the movement of the spine through curves, tilts, twists, and arches. Incorporation of Release technique encourages flowing movements that focus on breath. Virtuosic percussionist James Taylor will help inspire your movement with live accompaniment throughout the class.

There will be opportunities to try out a range of contemporary dance skills from moving across the floor to simple springs and jumps. You will leave confident and ready to take your next step into contemporary dance.
