Contemporary Introduction with Sarah Miller
Spring 2026
About Contemporary Introduction with Sarah Miller
Spring term classes start on Wednesday 7 January and run until Wednesday 25 March 2026 (excluding Wednesday 18 February due to half term).
Jump, spin and glide across the floor with contemporary dance!
This course is aimed at complete beginners and offers an introduction to contemporary dance in an encouraging and laid-back group setting, with opportunities for creative development of your own style. Sarah Miller will guide you through the basics of core contemporary dance vocabulary and techniques which includes Cunningham and release.
Cunningham technique emphasises the movement of the spine through curves, tilts, twists, and arches. Incorporation of release technique encourages flowing movements that focus on breath. Live music from Oliver Davies will help inspire your movement throughout the class.
There will be opportunities to try out a range of contemporary dance skills from moving across the floor to simple springs and jumps. You will leave confident and ready to take your next step in contemporary dance.
