Silva Laukkanen is based in Texas, USA. She is passionate about dance and movement and finds joy in the powerful stories that bodies create through motion in shared spaces. She is dedicated to expanding the understanding of who can dance and where dance can happen, and she has a deep commitment to community art and making dance education accessible for students with disabilities. She co-authored the book Breadth of Bodies: Discussing Disability in Dance and hosts the podcast DanceCast. In 2020, she co-founded Tractus Art alongside her South African colleague Christelle Dreyer.
In the short time I’ve been on this course, I’ve rediscovered artmaking through both my research interests and personal practice. I’m excited to dive deeper into embodied research practices and explore how my past work weaves into the future.
