El Weston is a mover, groover, researcher, and general enthusiast for the stories our bodies tell. Her research explores decolonial dance education practices. At its core, the work asks: who gets to belong in dance spaces? UK higher education has long upheld a culturally narrow approach to dance, with Eurocentric forms, pedagogies and assessment dominating practice. Through qualitative and practice-based research, El is looking at how we can develop inclusive, critical methodologies—ones that acknowledge diverse movement histories, challenge traditional terminologies, and embrace intersectionality. El’s work engages with students, educators, and artists to interrogate dance curricula and practice in higher education, question the commodification of styles, and rethink how knowledge is shared and embodied in the studio.
