Archana Ballal
Archana is an LCDS Alumni and classically trained Bharatanayam dancer. She spent the early part of her career working as a performer and teacher; later it was her interest in the stories our bodies hold, which led her to train as a Dance Movement Psychotherapist. Her clinical experience as a therapist includes working in the NHS, the VAWG and Women’s sector, Youth Offending and Prison settings, and with Looked after Children and Care Leavers. Archana offers a warm and empathic space for clients, working in a trauma informed way and drawing on her training and skill development in various areas which include- Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, DBT (Dialectical Behavioral Therapy), CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy), MI (Motivational Interviewing), and utilising creative and strengths-based ways of working. Central to her practice is the belief that support for wellbeing and mental health, including psychotherapeutic intervention, should be genuinely open and accessible to all. Her interest is in researching how a decolonising approach can ensure this and how the use of creativity and embodiment can support. More recently she has been a guest lecturer on the Dance Movement Psychotherapy MA course at Goldsmiths University and also utilises her skills and knowledge from both her therapeutic work and dance background to provide wellbeing support to artists during creative processes.
