Anders Duckworth
Dance artist, Choreographer and Visual Artist
Anders is a British/Swedish, Trans, non-binary dance artist, choreographer and visual artist. Their work blurs movement and visual arts, collaborating with artists working in computer coding, residual media, fine art, projection, fashion, music technology and design to find different languages in order to open the possibilities of performance and choreography. They are currently a Work Place (associate) Artist at The Place (2021-2026) After completing a Foundation Diploma in Art and Design, Anders went on to a degree at London Contemporary Dance School. They graduated in 2014 and joined Maresa Von Stockert's Tilted Productions (2014-2018) They have also worked with Lea Anderson, Requardt & Rosenberg, Wayne Parsons, Kasia Witek, Jose Agudo, Protein Dance, and Opera North, among others. Anders is currently performing in the summer 2022 tour of Requardt & Rosenberg’s Future Cargo. As a maker, Anders has choreographed a short film, Polystyrene Dreams (dir. Jack Exton), which won the RATMA International Film Festival Best Art Film 2013, and has created several installation films combining fashion, performance, and animation. In the duet, Projected (2015), Anders worked with analogue projection of old film stock, in Absent Impressions (2015), they collaborated with a composer and a film artist to continue their exploration of the materiality of celluloid. In 2017 Anders turned to a critique of digital technology with Binary, a collaboration with designer Kit Hinchcliff and composer and computer coder Jamie Forth, and six dancers.In January 2019 Anders completed their MA at London Contemporary Dance School, their dissertation was entitled Gendered Spaces: A perpetuation of inequality. Alongside their choreographic work, they also have a teaching practice in both movement and choreography.
Well Lit is a duet made in partnership with choreographer/performer Daniel Persson, based on their personal experiences of gender and cultural identity. Well LIt premiered at Palladium, Malmo in August 2020 and has been supported by The Place and Arts Council England. Mapping Gender, a solo work in collaboration with sound artist Kat Austen, olfactory artist John Foley, premiered at The Place in September 2022 and is supported by Arts Council England, The Place, Yorkshire Dance, Dance City, and Ugly Duck.
Anders is currently working on Little M, a new piece for families which will premiere at The Place in October 2024 and is supported by Arts Council England, The Place, Dance East, and Stanley Arts.
