Job Description
"Historic Royal Palaces, a team of people who love and look after six of the most wonderful palaces in the world, are embarking on an ambitious arts project at the Tower of London with participation at its heart.
We are looking for an experienced producer to engage local communities for this exciting 3-year project (2024-2027) which draws on the success of our existing community programme.
The project is a collaboration between our Community Partnerships team and R&D Studio producers, working with a group of lead artists to develop larger-scale live programmes in and around the Tower of London. Inspired by the 600-year history of animals at the Tower, which was home to the royal menagerie, we will explore the ‘animals’ theme and its many cultural resonances through puppetry, movement, music and a range of community participation. This project will be driven by social value and our local communities’ needs and responses.
Our local neighbourhood, Tower Hamlets, is one of the most diverse and multicultural boroughs in London and the UK. Throughout history it has been a place of arrival, and continues to have a fast-growing population today, experiencing stark social contrasts. This project will use arts and creativity as an act of community building and skill sharing, creating high-quality, large-scale artistic outputs in 2026 and 2027.
As Community Arts Producer, you will work alongside world class artists and local communities to explore the ‘animals’ theme and create a broad engagement programme, which is at the heart of this project."
"We want to work with someone who is inspired by the opportunity to work with East Londoners, learn from them, and explore how to create a sense of belonging and ownership of the Tower, their local and national asset. This project aims to work in long-term partnerships to produce a legacy of change; to both increase the number of visits from our local borough and inform changes to our visitor experience to hold more relevance to local residents. This project is a key driver for our charity’s inclusivity aims.
We are committed to increasing the diversity and socio-economic inclusivity of our team and welcome applications from a wide range of people. This role requires a mixed skillset, and we can support career development and offer mentoring for successful applicants who demonstrate suitable experience but who feel they may need more support in specific areas. Local knowledge of Tower Hamlets is desirable."
