About A Space for All Our Tomorrows

A hypnotic, slow meditation on utopian space.

Azione, 2022

Annie Hanauer... performs a twirling and shimmering dance, punctuated by breathtaking moments, whose fluidity is matched only by its expressiveness.

Dance Reflections, for Variation(s) by Rachid Ouramdane, 2023

A Space for All Our Tomorrows imagines a utopian space for different bodies to share. It takes inspiration from the historical artist community of Monte Veritá in the Swiss mountains. Hanauer and collaborators manifest their utopia through their bodies and movements, leaving open the possibility for multiple perspectives. They channel the feeling of something that is intangible, imaginary and different for every person, amplifying perspectives from those who may have been labelled as "other" in society.

Using their varied physicalities and voices, Hanauer and collaborators explore the properties of the body, togetherness and individuality, presence and power, in relation to utopia and disability. Four bodies, with their own wisdom, hold this infinite human search through their insistent presence.

Following a successful European tour, A Space for All Our Tomorrows celebrates its UK premiere at The Place.

ABOUT ANNIE HANAUER

Annie Hanauer is an independent dance artist based in London, UK, working internationally. She has performed, choreographed, toured, and taught extensively worldwide for 15 years. In addition to her own choreography, Annie has created touring work for Candoco Dance Company, Theater Münster, Ramped, Mobius Dance, ZHdK Zurich University of the Arts, and as Cowles Visiting Artist 2020 at the University of Minnesota.

Annie is passionate about building inclusive and accessible artistic practices, and wants to joyfully disrupt assumptions of what a dancing body is. She is interested in the power, wisdom, creativity, and resilience of people who have been 'othered', stemming from her own lived experience as a disabled person. Her work relies on curiosity, presence, deep connection, and full-bodied dancing, and has often played with the contrast between the body’s power to hold that which is felt, and the concreteness of language.
