◢ Change is the only constant ◣

Repetitive patterns and regular routines in everyday life might seem monotonous and boring. How can we find joy out of this repetitive life? “Repetition” and “change” are two contrasting ideas, but they complement each other like Yin and Yang. How can we create changes in “repetitions”? Can we find certain routines in a series of changes? In this new work, Hong Kong independent choreographer Blue Ka Wing substitutes different variables of 'music' and 'dance' into her distinctive choreographer’s performing formula, exploring boundaries of performance and discovering changes and surprises in repetitions.

Until The Real Thing

Until the Real Thing is about the slide between sincerity and bullshit – how does what we absorb become what we offer? – and how a little absurdity, a little re-phrasing, can be both playful and protective. Until the Real Thing is created and performed by choreographer Lily Kind in collaboration with dancers Tine Gatchalian and Lakshmi Iyenger. Like much of Kind's work, it is arranged as vaudevillian dance theater, overlapping postmodern self-awareness with musical tenderness through Black American Popular dance forms including Waacking/Punking and Vernacular Jazz. This is Kind’s London debut.

About Lily Kind

Lily Kind (they/she) has been at the heart of grassroots dance scenes in the USA in Baltimore and Philadelphia, as founder of Effervescent Collective (2008-2014), Associate Director of Urban Movement Arts (2017-2020), co-founder of Ragtag Empire (2016-2023) and as director of critically-acclaimed ensemble shows 'Wolfthicket' and 'I Have I Tape I Wanna Play'. Lily works in techniques and lineage passed to her by Headlong Dance Theater, Amy Spencer & Richard Colton, David Zambrano, Kumari Suraj, Vince Johnson, and Ron Wood/Zen One. She moved to London in 2023. She is currently a senior lecturer at De Montfort University in Leicester, UK.

Inspired by film and animation, this piece transforms the mind into an empty house filled with vibrant caricatures, brought to life by three distorted figures known as the LoonHeads. Blending contemporary dance and physical theatre, LoonHeads: sketched is a highly physical performance that features an original sound score rich with riddles, clues, and infectious grooves. Amidst the playfulness, the work carries poignant moments inviting the audience to consider the intricacies of the mind.
