About Choreographic Class for Over 60s with Becky Namgauds

Sessions start on Wednesday 21 January and run until Saturday 7 March.

Dance, devise, and perform. Work with leading artists, curated each term by The Place.

This creative project offers dancers over 60 the opportunity to work with distinguished guest artists and professional dance companies over the course of a term. Participants will engage in contemporary dance techniques and creative practice, developing strength and choreographic skills while collaborating with others to create new movement material.

Each term concludes with a performance, either as an informal sharing or at a professional dance platform, giving dancers the chance to present their work in a supportive, high-quality environment.

About your teacher

Rebecca (Becky) Namgauds is a London-based multidisciplinary choreographer, performer and movement director, originally from the North of England. With over 15 years of practice, she has developed a raw, instinctive and emotionally charged movement language noted for its fearless, boundary-pushing quality.

Her choreography explores human contradiction—instinct, suppression, resilience and humour—and has been described as “extraordinary, haunting and arrestingly physical.” Recognised by The Guardian as “one-to-watch,” her work has been presented at Dance Umbrella, V&A Museum, Greenwich & Docklands International Festival and the British Council Edinburgh Showcase, and has toured nationally and internationally with Arts Council England support.

Namgauds has created work for organisations including Hofesh Shechter Company, EMERGENCE Graduate Company and Roma City Ballet, and has worked extensively with leading directors and artists such as Marianne Elliott, Eddie Peake and Holly Blakey across stage, film and commercial contexts.
