Clean Break Project

The Place has been working in partnership with Clean Break for many years, initially delivering dance classes as part of their programme of courses. Since 2018 we have invited dance artists to work on choreographic projects with the Members of Clean Break that culminate in performances of the work they have created together.
Artists who have worked with us and Clean Break previously include Akosua Boakye, Vicki Igbokwe, Roswitha Chesher, Sara Dos Santos and Corinne Meredith.
Usually, these projects take place in the summer term and will have a creative theme. Clean Break has a bi-annual Members Festival, from which we use their theme for that year’s dance project.
About Clean Break
Clean Break was founded by two women in prison who believed in the power of theatre to transform lives.
Their vision is of a society where all women can realise their full potential, free from criminalisation. Through their unique work on stage, in prisons and in the community, they raise difficult questions, inspire debate, and help to effect profound and positive change in the lives of women who are criminalised. www.clean.break.org.uk
