Jie Zhou
Jie Zhou is a choreographer and dancer whose work emerges from the intersections of migration, cross-cultural experience, and embodied memory. Exploring “movement-in-transit,” they use asymmetry, unstable rhythms, and emotionally charged physicality to reveal lived experiences. Objects and props extend their expressive vocabulary, transforming personal narratives into shared metaphors. Influenced by artists such as Pina Bausch, Hannes Langolf, and YeJi Kim, they blend structured choreography with purposeful improvisation. Through collaboration, workshops, and residencies, Jie Zhou cultivates relational artistic growth, creating dynamic spaces where dancers and audiences connect, respond, and co-create across cultural boundaries.
Jie Zhou is a graduate of the MA Dance: Performance programme at LCDS, where she was a member of Cohort 02. During the programme she worked with project leaders such as Dickson Mbi Company, Alexander Whitley Dance Company, Theo Clinkard, Steve Kirkham, Holly Blakey, Hannes Langolf, Seke Chimutengwende, Benjamin Jonsson, Rakesh Sukesh and Alleyne Dance under the course leadership of Tom English, Tina Afiyan Breiova and Dr Andrew Sanger, working closely with individual mentor Yeji Kim.
