Fenglin Yang

My artistic practice explores the dialogue between discipline and instinct, structure and vulnerability. Trained in ballet, Chinese folk dance, and Gaga, I use the body as a vessel for transformation— where control dissolves into emotional truth. My movement research seeks to unearth the physical memory carried in gesture, questioning how cultural identity, fragility, and presence coexist in motion.
Through collaboration and improvisation, I aim to create spaces where individuality meets collective resonance, and where dance becomes a language of empathy, tension, and renewal.
Fenglin is a graduate of the MA Dance: Performance programme at LCDS, where he was a member of Cohort 02. During the programme he worked with project leaders such as Dickson Mbi Company, Alexander Whitley Dance Company, Theo Clinkard, Steve Kirkham, Holly Blakey, Hannes Langolf, Seke Chimutengwende, Benjamin Jonsson, Rakesh Sukesh and Alleyne Dance under the course leadership of Tom English, Tina Afiyan Breiova and Dr Andrew Sanger, working closely with individual mentor Kenny Wing.
During my year at The Place, I learned to listen and converse with myself—to step beyond comfort, embrace failure, and find growth through exploration. Each challenge taught me that movement begins within, and that true artistry emerges from curiosity, vulnerability, and the courage to keep transforming.
