Esther Cheong is a dance artist working across hip hop and contemporary forms, whose practice bridges grounded physicality with research-led exploration. Her work examines humanness through cultural and social contexts, using textured movement, isolation, and dynamic range to reveal the body’s emotional spectrum. Rooted in Southeast Asian values of discipline, gratitude, and community, she approaches dance as a vehicle for connection, transformation, and shared experience.

Her performance experience includes going to Beijing to perform at the Beijing Dance Academy’s World Dance Education Alliance under London Contemporary Dance School. The piece, by Yeji Kim and Kenny Wing Tao Ho, was an extract from Bodyfisher, produced by Fenglin Productions. She has also assisted Tom English in workshops in both London and Shanghai.

As Captain of Hydrogen Dance Co. and an active leader within multiple creative communities, Esther champions collective creativity and the exchange of diverse movement languages. In 2026, she will debut her first solo work at Resolution in London and travel to Phoenix, Arizona, to perform at the Master Ballet Academy Gala and share choreographic research with students. Through performance, teaching, and choreography, she continues to develop a practice that integrates artistry, research, and community engagement.

Esther is a graduate of the MA Dance: Performance programme at LCDS, where she was a member of Cohort 02. During the programme she worked with project leaders such as Dickson Mbi Company, Alexander Whitley Dance Company, Theo Clinkard, Steve Kirkham, Holly Blakey, Hannes Langolf, Seke Chimutengwende, Benjamin Jonsson, Rakesh Sukesh and Alleyne Dance under the course leadership of Tom English, Tina Afiyan Breiova and Dr Andrew Sanger, working closely with individual mentor Chandenie Gobardhan.
