Chief Executive Clare Connor receives the Jane Attenborough Award at the 2026 One Dance UK Awards
Press Story
9 Feb 2026We are incredibly proud to celebrate our CEO Clare Connor, who has been recognised with the Jane Attenborough Award at last night’s One Dance UK Awards.
The Jane Attenborough Award honours those whose career has made an outstanding contribution to dance, and over 25 years, Clare’s visionary leadership has had a profound and lasting impact on the dance sector, continually reminding us of the transformative power of dance to change lives.
In her speech, Clare spoke movingly about being of service through dance at The Place, and about the importance of acting as cheerleaders, advocates and champions for one another — so that our sector can come together with generosity, courage and care.
“Dance was my passport to social mobility. It validated my identity, gave me confidence, and led me to my tribe — people who tend to care a little less for words, and a little more for action.
And yet, in a world that still privileges words over movement, we know the value of what dance can communicate.
So my hope this evening is simple: that our sector continues to come together with generosity and courage and care, and that we use this ‘movement’ to co-create a manifesto for dance, and to develop a bold, sector-driven National Strategy for Dance. One that reflects the diversity and ambition of our field. A legacy – much like Jane Attenborough’s - shaped by us, for future generations.“
