About NOISE

The whole event can be seen as a proof-of-concept: proof that blurring between dance and technology has captivating consequences; proof that art can be both thematically successful and innately inclusive; proof that the concept of ‘noise’ is far vaster than a viewer may initially imagine

How does NOISE feel?

Join Nua Dance for NOISE, a raw and intimate immersive performance for Deaf and hearing audiences. Take a sensory dive into different perceptions of noise inspired by the lived experiences of the performers as people who don’t conform to social norms set up by ableism and heteronormativity.

Blending the boundaries between sound and visuals, NOISE embraces the complexities of the familiar and celebrates the intensity of the physical experience. A visceral, trippy journey of self-discovery, NOISE follows the success of an interactive film version commissioned by BBC Arts and OneDance UK for Dance Passion.

As a dancer, Neus Gil Cortes was a member of Hofesh Shechter Company, National Dance Company Wales, Luca Silvestrini’s Protein and Dance WorksRotterdam. Since establishing Nua Dance in 2015, her creations have been presented across the UK, Europe and the USA. Her full-length works includecircus-dance show QUIMERA, which toured the UK in 2019 and REVERIE for the National Circus. NOISE has been devised in collaboration with dancers ChrisFonseca, Shelley Eva Haden and Tommaso Petrolo, video designer Ben Glover and sound designer Mike Winship. The interactive dance film NOISE is available to watch for free via BBC Taster
